Hope Town, The Bahamas — Hope Town’s new road project had its official contract-signing ceremony this past Thursday, September 1st. Three Abaconian construction companies were considered for the project, with Abaco Rock Ltd. submitting the winning bid of just under $102,000.00. Government officials and ministers were in attendance and gave speeches. Kenneth Meltarp, whose company won the contract, is a local of Hope Town, and therefore likely to know exactly what the community expects.
A talking point of the ceremony was the historic quality of Hope Town. Its importance in the local economy as a major destination of first time and repeat tourists is well known, and therefore deemed deserving of a facelift. The project, as proposed, will pave new roads in town. Concrete will be used for making the streets in order to keep the same quaint, historic style Hope Town is known for. This project compliments several other public works efforts happening throughout the Abacos.
